2024 New Jersey Minimum Wage Increase
On January 1, 2024, New Jersey’s minimum wage was increased by $1.00. The new minimum wage, which was promised by Governor Phil Murphy when he took office, increases New Jersey’s minimum wage to $15.13 per hour. It is important to note that back in 2018, just six (6) years ago, New Jersey’s minimum wage was$8.60 per hour.
There are exceptions to this state-wide increase for several industry-based employers. Some of the exceptions include:
Agricultural workers | Long-term care workers | Tipped workers |
Outside salespersons | Vehicle salespersons | Seasonal employees |
Certain minors under the age of 18 years old |
“Small” employers, as defined as having less than 6 employees, and seasonal employers can incrementally raise their minimum wage across the next two (2) years (2026) to lessen the impact on their business. On January 1, 2024, these employers must raise their minimum wage from $12. 93 to $13.73.
